Minutes of the General Purposes Committee Meeting held on Monday 18th October 2021

Present: Cllrs B Vincent (Chairman), Cllr S Chamberlain (Vice Chairman), M Holyer, L Hemingway, A Stubbins, Cllr’s Mrs J Ellis, Mrs A Wormald

Members of the Public:  0

Item 1 - Apologies:  Cllr S Chambers, J Sargent, S Walmsley. G Clements (apology not received)

Item 2 - Conflicts of Interest: None received

Item 3 – To discuss ideas of how Ingoldmells could celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations over the weekend of the 2nd to 4th June 2022

Members present had a lengthy discussion which resulted in ideas being the following:

  • a celebration tea party of dance for residents of the older generation to take place in the Royal Arthur hall
  • the Clerk shall apply for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon
  • Commemorative mugs or commemorative £ coins for the children of the village
  • Tickets being issued to residents only
  • Union Jack bunting hung in the village and Glebe Park
  • Party in Glebe park with an ice cream van on site

The Clerk read out a personal statement from Cllr Sargent whereby he listed his reasons for not supporting a commemorative event and suggested that money should not be spent on this from the Council budget. Cllr Sargent’s opinion was not supported by members present. Further ideas shall be discussed at future Council meetings.

Item 4 - To discuss where to hold future Council and Committee meetings

Discussion took place amongst members to ascertain if the ground floor Council Chamber & Meeting room was of an adequate size to hold futurer Council and Committee meetings.  It was agreed that the ground floor Council Chamber & meeting room is of adequate size and ventilation for Committee meetings, however, it was agreed that the Clerk should book St Peter’s hall for the next two monthly Council meetings. The Clerk stated that the hall was not free for hire on Monday evenings so shall arrange another evening. Members shall look at the situation again at the December meeting.

There were no further general purpose matters for discussion

Item 6 – To confirm the date for the next meeting of the General Purposes Committee meeting

Monday 17th January 2022 (following the Finance Committee meeting)
